   The blood pressure-regulating mechanisms are subjected to both neural and endocrine regulation as with other bodily functions. Our laboratory has been interested in the endocrine control of the blood pressure, and focused on altered roles of renin-angiotensin, nitric oxide, and atrial natriuretic peptide systems in the development and maintenance of hypertension. Circulating levels of these hormones are measured, and components of these hormonal systems are determined at molecular levels using Northern blot, Western blot and PCR techniques. The results indicate that an attenuation of the nitric oxide system and an enhancement of the various components of renin-angiotensin system substantially contribute to the development and maintenance of high blood pressure in several models of hypertensive animals.
